Boutique quintas and a paired lunch

About this experience

The van leaves Porto and takes about 100 minutes to reach the valley, on the N323 and later the N222. The first stop is Quinta do Fôjo, where you spend 1.5 hours on a visit and tasting. On the way to lunch the guide stops at the Miradouro de Adorigo for photos.

Lunch is the long, slow part of the day: two hours at Quinta do Laranjo, with a tasting and a meal at the winery, and vegan and vegetarian options. A Porto Tonic is served at the winery. Then it is along the N222 to Pinhão for a one-hour boat cruise, with sparkling wine on board.

This is the pick if you want to know where you are drinking before you go. Both estates are small, and the group is private or small. Two practical points: the tour needs at least three participants or it is cancelled, and breakfast is not included, so eat before you leave. A one-winery version gets you back earlier, at about 5:00 to 5:30 pm rather than 6:00 pm.

Tips before you book

• Eat breakfast before pickup. It is not included and lunch is at the second stop.
• Choose the one-winery option if you want to be back in Porto before 6 pm.
• Ask for the vegan or vegetarian lunch when you book.
• Solo travellers: book a date that already has other guests, since the minimum is three.
• Bring a light layer for the boat in spring and autumn.
